Author:   John D’Amico and Alex Koroknay - Palicz
Source:    The New York Times Upfront

The Topic of this article is Driving age.
The Main Idea of this article is Teen Driving age. The main idea is implied, not stated exactly in the article.
The Author’s Purpose of this article is to Persuade readers to pick a side of whether the driving age should be raised to 18.
The Pattern of Organization is Classification, because the topic is divided into two parts, a no and a yes.
The Text Features of this article are:
-       Title, helps by giving an idea about the article before it is read.
-       Heading, helps by predicting a main idea.
This article is about a debate whether the driving age should be raised to 18 in all states.
What I Learned from this article is that In some states in the U.S the driving age in 18, or some states are fighting for that law.
What I liked about this article is that both sides had many examples and information but no one could be right. We all have different beliefs and not everyone could be right.
What I did not like about this article is the side YES, just because some teens have made bad decisions while driving behind the wheel doesn’t mean that we ALL will. There are many steps you have to pass to get a license, in my opinion if you passed you deserved it.
Who should read this article : Parents of teens should read this article to pick a side,  The teenagers are still under there parents control. If your against the driving age being 16, don’t let your kids drive.
This article reminds me of my mom, because my mom will never let me drive at 16, she beliefs that 16 should be the age of a permit, not a license.
World- This article reminds me of  all the car accidents I see on the highway that were made by teens when I hear it in the news, but however, teens are not the only problem for car accidents.

Vocabulary:

Context Clues
 Meaning
1. Pedestrians
About a third of those deaths were the teen drivers themselves, The rest were pedestrians, passengers, and people in cars that teenage drivers stuck.

The topic of this article is Space Travel

The main idea of this article is Tourism to space

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to Inform use about 2012 ideas about traveling to space.

The author’s perspective in this article is First person because The author mentioned about his kids using the word my.

The text features included in the article are Bolded words which helps by pointing out the main ideas.

This article is about a Company that offers tourism to space much cheaper then what we would pay now. The company wants to allow more people to visit other planets.

What i learned from this article is that many people with the dreams of traveling into space will come true because of Virgin Galactic.

What i liked about this article is The idea of the comp

I think Scientists, or anyone intrsted in out solar system should read this article because it could make there dreams of visiting space come true with a price of $200,000 instead of one million.

This article reminds me of my science class, the more we learn about the space the cooler it sounds. My science teacher would love to go and see it in reality.

(text to world) This article reminds me of the world today because even though we have technology that could take us to space it is very expensive. Maybe if many people took advantage of the new company the technology could get cheaper.

Reader's Journal #19 - Science Fiction

                                                                                                                           1/10/12

Dear Bailey Levy,

This week ive been reading the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Ever since i saw on my Tumblr dashboard the winner or more than one of district 12 i was dying to finish the book already so i went ahead like you told me i should.

“Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to…to show the Capitol they don’t own me. That I’m more than just a piece in their Games” -Peeta Mellark. I chose this quote because The Capitol thinks of them as toys fighting in there box which they can only leave if they win. They think they could just do whatever, because there in charge.

The capitol wants entertainment. They want what could get them money. It doesn't bother them that 23 teenagers die every year from just there "Games". Which i think is Pathetic. There population is decreasing just for the money to increase. The genre of this book is Science Fiction, which is a made up or predicted story that will take place in the future having to do with science or technology. The protagonist of this book is Katniss, The antagonist of this book is the Careers. The setting of this book is Panem, In the Arena, the weather changes all the time because the game makers decided to get bored and like to see some action when nothing happens.

In the Exposition was the reaping and Introducing district 12. In the Rising action Katniss became friends with Peeta and they both were training for the games. The climax was when the famous quote was told "Ladies and gentlemen let the seventy fourth Hunger Games begin!" which is my favorite quote. The falling action is where i am at right now in the book, when Katniss and Peeta actually fall in love not pretending.

The tone of this book is very anxious, my mood as the reader is suspenseful. The theme of this book is Survival and Freedom, the moral is usually clear at the end of the book which i didn't reach yet!  The author's perspective is first person since the narrator speaks as Katniss using the words I, Me, We....  The pattern of organization is flashback, because Katniss has many flashbacks of district 12.

I rate this book a 10 out of 10, I never thought it would be so good! Definitely attention grabbing! I couldn’t put my book down at most times! I recommend this book to all teenagers, because you will understand how lucky you are to have food and a home. Some people would love to trade and be in your place.
                                               Love,

Readers Journal #18

                                                                                                  1/3/2012

Dear Sharon Alfandary,

This week i finished the book Cross My Heart And Hope To Spy By Ally Carter, which is the second book of the series after the book you read this year: I'd Tell You I Love You, but Then I'd Have to Kill You. I recommend this book to you because you already read the first book and you can tell what it will be about. And also i know you will love it just as much as you liked the first book. The first book is a bit better then the second but now there's more guys involved! I'm going to spoil it for you a bit, There school isn't an only girl school anymore! Which means more guys that like Cammie.

My favorite quote in the book is "A spies worst enemy is Overconfidence" -Cammie On page 73. I agree with this quote because its not only about spies. Overconfidence is never good. Too much of it makes you so confident. Then you have expectations for things that don't come true. Or didn't exactly meet your expectations. Be confident but never too much.

The genre of this book is Realistic Fiction, because this story is believable. But not real the setting and characters are made up, The story is not true. As you know, some of the characters in this book are Cammie which is the main character and everything is told from her perspective. Bex and Macey are Cammie's best friends. Some of the new guys in her school are Zach, Grant and Jonas. Not a lot is mentioned about Jonas and grant! so find out! But Zach is like the new Josh for Cammie ! Cammie is the protagonist and there are no antagonists. The setting of this book is Gallagher Academy, In the winter time. Which isn't mentioned but i'm guessing it is rainy and snows.

In the Exposition of the book, Cammie and her mom arrive to the 'dressing room' at the mall (where everyone from Gallagher meet after summer). Rising Action, Cammie flies out to Gallagher to finally see her two best friends after summer vacation. Climax is when Cammie gets new guys in her class! Falling Action Cammie meets Zach, and in the resolution they date ! which i find adorable because there even cuter together then her and josh! which was really cute. The tone and mood of the book is mysterious! everyone is very mysterious at times and there's a lot of spies and missions which always keeps you wondering.

The point of view of this book is first person because Cammie is talking about her self. The author put them self in Cammie's place, the pronouns me, i , we are used a lot. The pattern of organization of this book is flashback, there are many memories Cammie thinks about while in the middle of a scene. Authors Purpose of this book is to entertain us about spies and young romances.

I rate this book a 10 out of 10, because i loved every part of the book. I was always in the zone and focused It was attention grabbing.

Love,
Your Friend
Raheli Haliva :)
